Ori Feeding (Ìbọ̀rí): Honoring Your Inner Destiny

Ori Feeding, known in Yorùbá as Ìbọ̀rí, is a sacred spiritual practice within the Ifá tradition that honors and strengthens one’s Ori—the divine consciousness and personal destiny chosen before birth. Rather than worshiping the physical head, Ori Feeding nourishes the spiritual essence that guides your life, decisions, and purpose.

What Is Ori?

In Ifá philosophy, Ori means “head,” but its deeper meaning refers to your spiritual destiny and higher consciousness. Every person is believed to have chosen an Ori before entering the world, making it one of the most important spiritual forces influencing success, health, relationships, peace, and fulfillment.

When your Ori is aligned, life often flows with greater clarity and purpose. When it becomes spiritually burdened, individuals may experience repeated obstacles, confusion, stagnation, or recurring setbacks despite their efforts.

What Is Ori Feeding?

Ori Feeding is a traditional ritual performed to pray for, honor, and spiritually strengthen one’s Ori. Depending on the guidance received through Ifá divination, sacred offerings may be presented while prayers are offered for wisdom, protection, peace, prosperity, longevity, and alignment with destiny.

The exact materials, prayers, and procedures vary from person to person. Authentic Ori Feeding is never based on a fixed recipe—it follows the guidance revealed through Ifá.

When Might Ori Feeding Be Recommended?

  • Periods of persistent spiritual obstacles.
  • Major life transitions or important decisions.
  • Seeking greater clarity about life’s direction.
  • Preparing for significant spiritual ceremonies.
  • After Ifá divination recommends it.
  • As part of ongoing spiritual maintenance.

Why Divination Comes First

Within the Ifá tradition, Ori Feeding should not be performed simply because someone wishes to do it. A qualified Ifá divination determines whether the ritual is appropriate, what spiritual purpose it serves, and which offerings, if any, are required.

Every individual has a unique spiritual path. What benefits one person may not be suitable for another, which is why personalized guidance is essential.

Begin with an Ori Reading

If you believe your Ori may require spiritual attention, the first step is an Ori Reading. Through divination, guidance can be received regarding your spiritual condition and whether Ori Feeding or another remedy is recommended.
